Interesting Food Facts – Sweet Potatoes

Tried some recipes with Eggs and wandering about , we stop at Sweet Potatoes. I came across some wonderful and fresh Sweet potatoes recently and couldnt help looking around for some interesting ideas.
While doing so , I just bumped into some amazing facts about these humble roots…hmmm and I’d certainly try to use them more in my dishes henceforth.

So…did you know that

1) They are fat-free and cholesterol-free.
2) They have unique health benefits!  They are loaded with vitamins A, C and E – antioxidants that can help prevent heart disease and cancer, bolster the immune system and even slow aging by promoting good vision and healthy skin.  They have been recently reclassified as an “antidiabetic” food.  They are anti-inflammatory and can protect against emphysema.
3) They are high in Beta Carotene.  They are an excellent source of copper, manganese, potassium, iron and vitamin B-6.

Browsing along , I stopped by here and gee, it was great to find so many recipes to try out.Cant wait to get there….no points to guess the next ingredient in the Recipe.

  1. Sweet Potatoes are a favourite of mine. First bake in their jackets. When cooled remove the skins, mash and stir in freshly grated ginger, orange zest and dried cranberries. YUMMY!
    Bon appetit!
