Oats Payasam

Do you have a sweet tooth ? For the health concious , dealing with the sweet tooth is an ordeal in itself. Occassionally , its perfectly fine to indulge in a sinful Chocolate cake or an ice-cream.

Come August , the festivities in the Indian Household bring all families together. When families come together , festive food is a must.  So this time for one of the festivals , I moved away from the usual tradition of using the sevai or the rice to make the payasam. This recipe is extremely quick and easy and somedays this can be a good breakfast option as well.  The entire recipe took me less than 10 minutes and the family took lesser time to finish it as well 🙂 So here’s how the recipe works

Ingredients:

  1. 1/4 cup quick oats
  2. 1 cup milk
  3. 1 teaspoon Ghee/Clarified butter
  4. 2 teaspoons sugar
  5. Couple of raisins and cashewnuts ( Optional )

Procedure:

Heat the ghee in a pan and roast the Cashew nuts until they turn golden brown. To this add the Quick oats and roast for a minute or two. Once this is done , add the milk , sugar and raisins and stir it slowly until the Milk turns a little thick. Garnish it with some raisins and serve hot.
